Klarna is now available on Commerce Hub, Fiserv's enterprise commerce platform, for the first time. The move brings Klarna's buy now, pay later options to enterprise merchants in the UK, the US, Canada and select European markets, across both in-store and online checkout, per Finextra.
The expansion follows Klarna's launch this week at 100,000 US in-store merchant locations through Clover, Fiserv's point-of-sale platform for small businesses. David Sykes, Chief Commercial Officer at Klarna, said the company is "rapidly expanding Klarna's footprint in physical retail, now live in 100,000 physical locations across the U.S. through Clover."
For vendors selling payment integrations into UK hospitality, this widens the addressable market. Enterprise merchants that already run Fiserv's Commerce Hub can now switch on Klarna without a separate integration, which means incumbent payment providers face displacement risk where BNPL demand is strong. A vendor selling POS or payment orchestration into enterprise hospitality groups should treat every Commerce Hub account as a live prospect for Klarna enablement.
Square consolidates its card portfolio onto Marqeta
Marqeta is enabling the Square Credit Card, Square's business credit card for sellers, backed by the American Express Network. Square is consolidating its debit, prepaid and credit programmes onto Marqeta's platform, per Finextra.
The migration matters because it changes the competitive picture for card issuing in UK hospitality. Square sellers, including cafes, takeaways and small restaurant groups, now have a single issuer processor behind their business cards. Marqeta's 2026 State of Credit report found that 96% of small and medium-sized businesses surveyed are intentional about which payment methods they use, and 34% have moved between credit products as their business evolved.
Andrea Raj, Head of Product for Square Banking at Block, said migrating existing cardholders "without any disruption to their experience was critical, and Marqeta delivered." For vendors selling loyalty, rewards or expense management into hospitality, Square's consolidated card stack creates a single integration point and a clearer upgrade path from entry-level to advanced products.
Mastercard launches Stablecoin Security
At Money20/20 USA, Mastercard announced Stablecoin Security, a risk intelligence solution for stablecoin transactions. It helps financial institutions identify fraud, scams, sanctions and other financial-crime risk indicators throughout the stablecoin payment lifecycle, per Finextra.
The solution is launching first in North America, with commercial availability expected worldwide in 2027. Borderless.xyz and Keyrails are initial partners. A study of 593 million stablecoin transfer events across 141 million Ethereum transactions in 2025 found that nearly 60% were complex, multi-step transactions.
For UK hospitality vendors, this is a signal rather than an immediate sales trigger. Stablecoin payments are not yet a meaningful checkout option in British pubs or restaurants. But Mastercard building compliance infrastructure now suggests institutional crypto rails are coming, and the vendors that understand stablecoin settlement early will be positioned when enterprise hospitality groups start asking about it.
SpudBros opens Leicester Express site
SpudBros, the viral jacket potato brand run by siblings Jacob and Harley Nelson, opens an Express location on Tuesday, October 20. The site is on the forecourt of the BP Garage at 270 Melton Road in Leicester's Belgrave area, per the Leicester Mercury.
The chain now has locations in Nottingham, Liverpool, Sheffield and Leicester. Zuber Issa, CEO of EG On The Move, which operates the petrol station, said the partnership aims to reach 30 locations over the next three years.
That growth target is the useful number for vendors. A food brand scaling from a handful of sites to 30 in three years needs POS, delivery integration, workforce management and inventory systems at every new opening. Each forecourt launch is a tech buying window, and the EG On The Move partnership means the rollout is tied to a large fuel retail estate with standardised site requirements.
IRO Sushi opens first Suffolk site
IRO Sushi opened for dine-in guests at the Great White Horse Hotel on Tavern Street in Ipswich on Saturday, October 17. Queues stretched out of the restaurant and along Tavern Street, per the Ipswich Star.
The restaurant had been partially operating for about two weeks, offering takeaways and online orders, before its grand opening. It is the chain's first eatery in Suffolk, and the company has more than 35 locations across the UK, largely in London and the South East.
For vendors, IRO Sushi's Ipswich opening is a smaller version of the SpudBros story. A chain entering a new county with an established online ordering operation needs reservation and delivery management that works across a growing estate. The Grade I-listed building also means any hardware installation has to work within heritage constraints, which favours vendors with experience fitting POS into listed properties.
